Part of the Kent Music in Medway Festival 2010
Keeping with the American theme of the festival the Kent County Youth Orchestra, who are the top instrumental players n Kent and gain their place by a rigorous audition process, will
be playing Dvorak's New World Symphony.
The New World Symphony is by far Dvorak's most popular work and is known to many today as the music from the Hovis adverts. It was commissioned by the New York Philharmonic and first performed in 1893 at Carnegie Hall where the reception was one of perpetual cheering and thunderous clapping. Influenced by native American music and Longfellow’s poem Hiawatha this is sure to be a popular piece in tonight’s concert.
