Recorder

Besides being a family of instruments capable of the highest musical achievements, recorders are an excellent introduction to music making, even for adults, and Kent Music run both classes and individual lessons. For many, the recorder is their initial step which may eventually lead on to learning an orchestral instrument, while others may take the recorder on to advanced level. There are recorder ensembles at county level and some adult ensembles which rehearse during the evening. Tuition is given both in schools and in music centres.

Suitability

• Co-ordination is important and fingering is quite tricky once the early stages are passed.
• Recorder study suits students who are neat and have an eye for detail.

Where to play

• Many like-minded recorder players join together in recorder groups.
• For the younger players there are usually school orchestras to join.
• For the accomplished and adult players there is a wealth of chamber music which can lead to an interest in Early Music.
