Summer School: Singing

Junior Singing Course

Course 1 - Wednesday 21st - Friday 23rd July 2010

Course 2 - Saturday 24th - Monday 26th July 2010

Cost £160 - for pupils aged 8-11 (years 4-6), give an opportunity to experience the sheer joy of singing in a choir. Pupils learn basic singing techniques, develop skills in singing with others and learn to sing a variety of songs in unison and in parts, including rounds. Songs are learnt from memory and through reading of stave notation. It is not necessary for pupils to be able to read music nor for them to have had previous choral or instrumental experience. For those wishing to extend their involvement in choral singing, there is the opportunity to audition for membership of the Kent County Junior Singers whilst on course.

 

Intermediate Singing Course

Wednesday 21st - Friday 23rd July 2010 | Cost £160

This course offers pupils aged 11-14 (years 7-9) opportunities to work on jazz songs, gospel and other accessible choral music. It includes work on aspects as diverse as blending and choreography together with workshops on microphone technique. The course will enable pupils to gain an understanding of the changes that occur for both boys and girls in the maturing voice, and of vocal techniques which will help to avoid strain and damage to the voice. Songs are learnt from memory and through reading of stave notation. It is not necessary for pupils to be able to read music nor for them to have had previous choral or instrumental experience. For those wishing to extend their involvement in choral singing there will be an opportunity to audition for membership of the Kent County Junior Choir or the Kent Youth Singers while on the course.

 

Senior Singing Course

Saturday 24th - Monday 26th July 2010 | Cost £160

This course offers students aged 14 and above an enjoyable experience of singing in a group. It will support students' musical development by giving them opportunities to sing music in a variety of styles, embracing light music (e.g. songs from musicals) and accessible classical pieces. It will include workshops on solo singing and singing in small groups, sessions on vocal improvisation and hints on composing and arranging for voices. For those wishing to extend their choral experience it will be possible to audition for membership of the Kent Youth Singers or Kent Youth Choir while on the course.
