Kent Music School

What we do

Kent Music is a privately run charity that provides high quality music tuition for all ages.

WZing Zonee start at 0 years old with ZingZone which can be carried on until 7 years old and is an ideal start for your child providing a structured approach to musical learning but with an emphasis on fun.

We provide music teaching in primary schools with Music + which is our response to the Government initiated Wider Opportunities programme. This scheme allows primary school children a full year of music teaching, for free, on a musical instrument. This is a fantastic opportunity for all children to learn an instrument and, if your child is at a primary school, we would urge you to check with their teacher to see if they will have this opportunity and if the teacher will be provided from Kent Music.

We are also in the process of setting up Music + Continuers Ensembles so that all children who have taken part in a Music + class can have the opportunity to join an after school club in their local area to continue playing an instrument or singing. For more information on these clubs contact Laura Callaghan on lcallaghan@kent-music.com

As well as the continuers projects Laura is the first point of contact for our Sound Factory projects where we attend a school (or schools can come to Astley House) for a whole day. In that day children learn to play an instrument from scratch and perform a song at the end of the day. We can take up to 90 children on each project and they have the opportunity to pick from up to 3 different types of instrument as well as singing.

We can provide individual or group lessons in any school setting with any instrument. We have set fees and can provide lessons from 20 minutes through to an hour.

We also provide Music Centres around the county where tuition takes place both for choirs and orchestras and for general music theory. Each centre has an end of term concert where all pupils have the opportunity to take part and showcase their talents to friends and relatives.

Summer SchoolFor over 60 years we have been running a Summer School at Benenden School near Cranbrook which sells out every year. Application forms are available on the website and it very much is a case that the sooner you get the form filled in the more chance you have of getting on a course.

Our County Groups are a major feature of Kent Music’s work. We run a number of groups many of which play at venues across Kent and feature some of the best young musicians in the area. Often these groups are joined by special guest conductors and soloists for concerts.

Kent Music AcademyKent Music Academy is part of the County Groups family and is designed to nurture talent across all instruments.

As well as all the work we do with children we also teach adults . We cater for adults in exactly the same way as we do for children – individual lessons or groups lessons can be set up and we can teach at our music centres in the county.

Whatever age, whatever ability, Kent Music has something to offer.
