Kent Schools Orchestra: Autumn 2014

Young musicians from across the county came together for the Kent Schools Orchestra course held over three days at the end of the half term break.  The wind and percussion honed their skills at Rochester while the string section worked under the expert guidance of Lori Norriss at Ashford School.  Lori, a former member of the London Symphony Orchestra is very much in demand as a string clinician and ensemble director.  She introduced the group to exciting new repertoire while developing their musicianship and ensemble skills in a relaxed but fun environment.  Lori was also a long time member of the orchestra for the acclaimed London production of Les Miserables and in true show style she left everyone asking for more with many parents asking if the course could be held more often than the two times each year that KSO normally meets.  The young musicians clearly enjoyed themselves while taking part and many new friendships blossomed between them.  Many of the orchestra members go on to take part in other county group activities including the Kent County Youth Orchestra and these friendships continue to last through these years and beyond.

What the players thought:

The Music was varied and made me feel proud to be a violin player.

It has been great fun and I learnt a lot.

The music was challenging and fun to learn!
