The Youth String Ensemble (previously Kent Schools Orchestra) provides school-age instrumentalists with opportunities to rehearse and perform at county-level with other young musicians from across Kent. YSE aims to extend musical skills, knowledge and understanding through intensive but enjoyable full and sectional rehearsals on non-residential courses. The courses are held over three days during each of the school half-terms and each course is followed by a public concert. Auditions are not required for membership in YSE and the group is a good foundation for players who are looking to progress to the Kent County Youth Orchestra.
Repertoire consists of a variety of music including standard light orchestral classics and music from film, television and music theatre. All repertoire is selected with the aim of developing technique, general musicianship, and ensemble skills, as well as introducing players to the work of varied composers.
Applications are welcome from accomplished school age string players who have achieved Grade 2 or an equivalent standard.
