Youth Wind Ensemble

Formed in 1994 the Youth Wind Ensemble (previously Kent Schools Wind Band) has been entertaining audiences in both this country and abroad with its repertoire of popular show, film and stage music. The members are chosen from schools within Kent and range in age from twelve to eighteen and are tutored by professional players/teachers. The ensemble averages 40 players and meets for two courses each academic year with concerts in Kent. As well as its own two concerts each season the group has been engaged to perform for other organisations including the Round Table and Rotary Club and was given the exciting opportunity to perform at Port Lympne Wildlife Park with The Band of The Royal Corps of Signals as part of the Kent Music Festival. The Youth Wind Ensemble is a good foundation for players looking to progress to the Kent Youth Wind Orchestra in the future. With valuable financial support from Kent Music, Kent County Council and Medway Council the Youth Wind Ensemble is able to continue entertaining audiences of all ages.

The next course is on 17-19 February 2017 at Rochester Grammar School with the free concert on 19 February, 3pm.

Music is selected from the standard wind band repertoire with the aim of extending musical skills, knowledge and understanding through intensive but enjoyable sectional rehearsals.

  • The choice of music was both challenging and fun to play
  • The opportunity to perform in the wind band with other children of similar ages and from different schools is a great experience
    Daniel Ahern
