KYWO Audition Information

Standard

Applicants should be grade 6 standard and above.

Entry

Membership is open to player’s in year 7 and above (maximum age 19) who are still in full time education. Entry is by prospective applicants being observed during group workshops run by professional tutors plus a short audition and discussion. Tutors are looking for versatility and responsiveness to musical suggestion and not necessarily good soloists. The workshops will involve working on repertoire for the next season and will be held on a Sunday to avoid missing any school lessons. There are three workshops – Woodwind, Brass and Percussion. These sessions are held in September/October.

Brass and woodwind players should also bring some material they have been working on recently to the day to perform during the short audition.

Additional Information

Failure to secure a place in the Wind Orchestra may not be because you did not play well. You may be of suitable standard but not recruited simply because there are insufficient places available. This is why applicants are put in rank order. Remember that we want you to play to the best of your ability. We are sympathetic people who realise you are under pressure and might be nervous. You will be performing in a warm and friendly atmosphere. Please note: Auditions are held as and when positions arise within the Wind Orchestra and your application will be held on file until a vacancy arises.
