Maidstone Primary Schools Orchestra

On Monday 3 July, 138 young musicians from 7 Maidstone primary schools came together for a day of music making, our biggest number yet! Music was arranged specially for the event by local music teacher Cheryl Hooker-Blake and sent to schools at Easter. All of the children practiced at home and in school before coming together to form a huge orchestra at Cornwallis Academy in Maidstone. The day was spent rehearsing pieces such as ‘Be our Guest’ (Beauty and The Beast), ‘Shape of You’ (Ed Sheeran), ‘The Chain’ (Fleetwood Mac) and more. Parents and friends were invited to a concert at the end of the day and Madginford Primary School even treated us to their own version of ‘African Funk’. Phoenix from Marden Primary school said ‘What I liked was the choice of songs; some were easy and some were hard. It’s nice to play and be a part of it – that’s the most important thing’.
