A Very Special Visit for KCYO

On 11th March members of the string section of Kent County Youth Orchestra performed on invitation from the Turner Contemporary gallery for a very special visit. On this day Her Royal Highness, The Duchess of Cambridge came to Margate to visit the gallery as well as artists in Cliftonville. A string quartet from the orchestra brilliantly entertained the one hundred plus invited dignitaries with a balanced mix of classical favourites, popular tunes and songs from the shows. Later that morning the fifty strong string ensemble performed beautifully in the idyllic setting of the Sunley Gallery at the Turner with the calm sea as a perfect back drop. This as the VIPs were presented to the Duchess who somehow still managed to look resplendent in the final part of her pregnancy. The day proceeded flawlessly as the sun played its own beaming part in what was a very memorable day for us all and the Duchess even saved time for a chat with members of the cello section. As the Duchess left for the next part of the visit to Cliftonville the Paparazzi snapped away but I think our orchestra outdid them with their very own proudly taken selfies! Just another day in the life of a KCYO orchestra member – if only!
