Kent County Youth Orchestra: Spring 2016

The first performance by the Kent County Youth Orchestra at the Colyer Ferguson Concert Hall was greeted with huge amounts of appreciation from the audience on Saturday 9th April. An all English programme was led by the international conductor George Jackson who produced a polished performance following a five day intensive residential course with the orchestra.

The concert hall worked perfectly for the orchestra allowing the strings to be split into two performance areas for the famous Fantasia on a Theme by Thomas Tallis. The effect of having one orchestra in the balcony and one on the stage was very atmospheric indeed. Other works included Elgar’s Cockaigne Overture and Suite from Henry V by Walton.

Orchestral Manager Phill Hyde commented ‘The orchestra has produced another stunning concert as part of its mission to perform throughout the county of Kent. Next stop is The Assembly Halls in Tunbridge wells on 27th August with what promises to be another exciting concert by these very talented musicians.’
