The closing date for applications is Sunday 8th April 2012.

Kent Music Summer School (KMSS) residential music courses for young musicians are held each July at the beautiful Benenden School near Cranbrook, Kent.

Their purpose is to give students aged between 8 – 19 the opportunity to join in concentrated ensemble playing and singing, away from the distractions of home and school. Friendships develop between those with similar musical interests and for many the Summer School has become an annual event not to be missed.

Anyone, regardless of where they live or are educated, can apply for a place. Over 1000 young people are able to develop their musical abilities during the courses through playing in wind bands, symphony orchestras, string orchestras, jazz groups and recorder ensembles.

On all the courses the emphasis is very much on enjoyment. These courses will be helpful to a wide range of musicians and those preparing for GCSE and A level Music will find it a particularly useful supplement to their studies.

Singing is fundamental and youngsters with or without experience will be welcomed on our choral courses. Musicianship is also extended by singing in the course chorus during the six-day instrumental courses.

These courses allow musicianship to flourish in an unrivalled atmosphere of encouragement, expertise and enjoyment.

What is the accommodation like?

Benenden School is in a 240 acre site in the heart of the Kent countryside. Accommodation is mainly in individual rooms. Catering facilities are of the high standard expected at this prestigious school. Leisure facilities include a supervised heated indoor swimming pool, organised sports/games, tennis and squash. There is also a shop on site.

Who are the staff?

The tutors and conductors are highly experienced Kent Music teachers and professional players. A resident nurse/matron, lifeguards and a team of experienced supervisory staff are present throughout.

How do I book?

Booking forms will be distributed at the end of October to all schools in Kent, to Kent Music teachers and Local Music Centres. They are also automatically sent to all recent applicants. Acceptance is governed by the need to ensure instrumental and choral balance, so the likelihood of your acceptance may be affected if the form is returned later than Friday 24th February 2012. If you like to apply please return the form as soon as possible. Do not send any payment as notification regarding fees will be sent with your letter of acceptance in April.
