Could you help shape the future of music education in Kent & Medway?
Are you a finance professional who could use your expertise to impact the lives of thousands of young people across Kent & Medway?
We are seeking a trustee with a strong finance and accounting background and a passion for the role music plays in young people’s lives to join us as we grow our impact across the region.
Kent Music is the lead organisation for the Kent & Medway Music Hub, funded by Arts Council England, and a charity dedicated to widening access to high-quality music education. Driven by our belief that music changes lives, we work closely with schools, colleges, cultural organisations and partners to ensure that learners of all ages, particularly children and young people, can access and progress in music.
Who we’re looking for:
We are looking for a qualified Chartered Accountant, or someone with similar experience in financial accounting, audit, charity finance or financial governance to join our Board of Trustees at an exciting time for Kent Music. You will help to ensure that Kent Music is financially sustainable so young people can benefit from a high-quality music education for years to come.
While the executive team manages day-to-day finances and budgeting, you will work with fellow trustees to provide constructive challenge and support on budgets, financial reporting, controls and long-term sustainability, including participation on the Audit & Risk Committee.
Experience supporting organisations with finance transformation would also be valuable.
We are looking for someone who is willing to engage thoughtfully with the work of Kent Music and the responsibilities of trusteeship. In addition to financial experience, you must have a genuine interest in the power of music education.
In this role, you will:
- Contribute your professional insight and expertise to Board discussions
- Support and challenge the executive team in shaping strategy and ensuring sustainability
- Help oversee the governance, financial health and long-term direction of the charity
- Act collectively with fellow trustees, sharing responsibility for Board decisions
Why become a trustee?
Being a trustee is a rewarding and strategic voluntary role. You will play a vital part in shaping Kent Music’s vision, supporting its leadership, and strengthening music education across the region.
Alongside making a meaningful contribution, you will gain experience in charity governance, develop your leadership and strategic skills, and broaden your professional network. Trustees are supported through induction, training and mentoring, and we are committed to making the experience enriching for you as well as impactful for the organisation.
Time Commitment
Board meetings are held four times a year. Trustees are expected to attend all meetings of the Board and committees as appropriate and undertake necessary preparation in advance of the meetings.
This particular role holder, as someone with financial experience, is also expected to form part of Kent Music’s Audit & Risk Committee, which meets approximately four times a year.
How to apply
To express your interest, please email recruitment@kent-music.com with your application form and equality & diversity monitoring form by 9am on Friday 21st August 2026.
We welcome applications from people of all backgrounds and particularly encourage interest from those currently underrepresented in music education and governance.
Recruitment Process
Recruitment will be via an interview with the chief executive and up to three trustees, including the chair of the trustees and the chair of the Audit & Risk Committee (ARC).
Kent Music is committed to equity and inclusion. If you have access requirements or would like adjustments made at any stage of the process, please let us know by contacting recruitment@kent-music.com
