Youth String Ensemble

The Youth String Ensemble provides school-age instrumentalists with opportunities to rehearse and perform at county-level with other young musicians from across Kent. YSE aims to extend musical skills, knowledge and understanding through intensive but enjoyable full and sectional rehearsals. The non-residential courses take place over three days during the autumn and spring school half-terms and each course is followed by a public concert. The group provides a good foundation for players who are keen to develop their ensemble skills.

The next 3-day course runs from Friday 16 – Sunday 18 February at Rochester Grammar School. View event here

Repertoire consists of a variety of music including standard light orchestral classics and music from film, television and musical theatre. All repertoire is selected with the aim of developing technique, general musicianship, and ensemble skills, as well as introducing players to the work of varied composers.

Applications are welcome from school age string players who are grade 1-3 or of an equivalent standard.

The Youth String Ensemble meet in the school half terms for courses to allow concentrated tuition with specialist tutors and to work with experienced conductors. Each course culminates in a concert which family and friends are welcome to attend.

We are always interested in hearing from new members! Auditions are not required for membership and applications are welcome at any point during the season. Please contact Valerie Cordina at vcordina@kent-music.com for more information.
