This course gives you the chance to explore a range of jazz styles through playing in small groups and larger ensembles. You’ll make music with others and learn through listening, experimenting and playing together.

You’ll be encouraged to take part in the creative process and try out improvisation, with guidance and support from professional jazz musicians. The focus is on building confidence, developing your style and learning how jazz works in a group setting.

The course ends with a performance for family and friends, showcasing some of the music and styles you’ve explored. This is a 3 day residential course.

All instruments are welcome if you’re at the right level, though the course is particularly suited to brass, wind and rhythm section instruments. Some instrument places are limited, particularly rhythm section, so early booking is recommended.

For students who want to explore different musical directions, Jazz can support progression into Wind Band, Symphony Orchestra, Song Writing, or advanced groups like Kent Youth Wind Orchestra and Kent County Youth Orchestra

All staff working with children and young people hold a current enhanced Disclosure and Barring Service check and take part in regular safeguarding and child protection training.
