New for 2026, this course introduces young people to music technology through hands-on composition and production.

This course is for young people who want to explore music using technology. You don’t need any previous experience, but those with some experience are welcome too. You’ll be guided by an experienced tutor as you create your own original tracks.

You’ll start by building rhythms and musical structures using drum machines, MIDI and audio loops. You’ll then explore how to shape and change sounds using samplers and built-in synthesisers. As the course goes on, you’ll develop your track through production and basic mixing.

At the end of the course, your finished track will be exported as an MP3 to take home and share with your family. All equipment is provided.

Music Tech Explorers can be a great starting point for students who want to try our Song Writing course or other creative opportunities from Kent Music, including Orchestra ONE, Music Labs and Creative Orchestra.

This is a 2-day residential course. Spaces are limited so we encourage early booking.

All of our staff who work with children and young people have a current enhanced disclosure through the Disclosure & Barring Service and we run a programme of regular child protection training for our teachers.

Thank you for the great opportunity to explore music. My child thoroughly enjoyed it.
