You’re outta time – applications for this project have now closed

Keep an eye on our main Orchestra ONE page for updates on upcoming projects!

Fire up the flux capacitor and make sure not to step on any insects – you’ll be travelling through time with Kent’s only creative composition course Orchestra ONE this October half term!

Working in sections and as a group, you’ll work with our expert tutors to write brand new music, creating a suite of music inspired by time travel over the four-day course.

This will be the 10th anniversary of our first O1 project, so there’s no better time to explore the past, present and future of music with us. We may even revisit some past O1 creations!

The course will end with a performance in the auditorium of the beautiful Maidstone Grammar School

While we can’t have an audience due to COVID restrictions, the whole performance will be professionally recorded. In November, all participants, their friends and families will be invited to the virtual premiere of their festival! (you can check out the brilliant video premiere for our last project on its webpage)

All abilities, all instruments, all genres – O1 participants

Orchestra ONE is a diverse ensemble which changes with each project. We welcome all players aged 11-18 who sing or play any instrument.

We ask that beginners can play at least three notes or three chords, but there is no restriction on instruments or preferred genres.

It doesn’t matter whether you’re a classical harpist, a ska trumpeter, a spoken word poet, beatboxer, DJ, folk guitarist or something else entirely – you’re all welcome!

Time-travelling tutors

We’re delighted to bring together the best of the best this course, with some O1 favourite tutors from the last 10 years returning to lead the music making.

Jason Rowland – Musical Director
Pip Bowers – Guitars
Simon Clarke – Brass and Woodwind
Luke Crook – Music Technology
Kate Harwood – Keys
Danny Moulton – Voice
Alice Phelps – Strings
Alex Ribchester – Percussion
Tom Wood – Sound Engineer
Piers Gray: Video Engineer
Sami Mason, Maria Dorey and Carol Lonnborg – Support Team

What do I need to bring?

Wherever possible, participants will need to bring their own instruments along to the project, including amplifiers, leads and stands. Do let us know if you haven’t got your own supplies – we may be able to help out!

How to apply

The course costs £40 per person for the full four days – just £10 a day!

Applications for this project will open on Friday 24th September and close on Thursday 21 October

There are only 50 spaces available for this project, so make sure you sign up quickly once the applications are open!

Click on the Apply Here button below to sign up.

Prior to the start of the course, all our tutor team and support staff will take a COVID-19 test, and again after the course has finished.

We will be encouraging our participants to do the same, as well as recording contact details as part of the Track and Trace process.

There is plenty of ventilation throughout the venue, and our support staff will be regularly cleaning surfaces as well as providing hand sanitiser and masks for participants if they do not have their own.

To maintain everyone’s safety, we will be monitoring the number of applications for each section to ensure effective social distancing. If one section’s numbers are getting too large, we may need to place you on our waiting list or offer you an alternative section.
