It’s been almost a year since our last Orchestra ONE project – we’ve missed you all! Sadly, we’re still not in a position to return to our usual in-person offer, but that doesn’t mean we can’t still make music together – O1 is going virtual!
Over the October half term, we will be delivering our first ever virtual O1 project. The project will be led by MD extraordinaire, Jason Rowland, with our usual team of superb tutors joining us to lead each section. The project will look a little different from what our regular participants are familiar with, but the goal is still the same – you will be creating a brand new composition over the course of the week, with the final piece being shared on our website and across Kent Music’s social media platforms on the final afternoon of the course.
The topic for the project will be ‘Food’ (this would have been the topic for our Easter project, as requested by previous O1 participants). As well as thinking about ways that food can be represented musically, participants will be asked to create artwork that showcases music and food prior to the start of the course – this can be photography, drawings, paintings or any other way you want to show your artistic side! The artwork you create will provide a visual accompaniment to the final piece shared online.
As with our in-person projects, the virtual course will be open to participants aged 8-18 and for any instrument (including singing and music technology). You can join whatever your musical ability, but we do ask that you know how to play at least 3 notes or chords on your chosen instrument. You will also need a device with Zoom to access the course, as well as having an additional device that you can record yourself on (e.g. a laptop for Zoom, and a phone for recording yourself).
Registration will be from 9:30am each day – please make sure you’re online and ‘checked’ in with plenty of time before the course starts each day! And don’t worry – there will be plenty of breaks throughout the day to avoid ‘Zoom fatigue’!
