Dartford Bridge 4 Youth
At Dartford Music Lab we’re all about creativity, collaboration and supporting the aspirations of young musicians of all kinds in the area.
We specialise in electronic music tech, recording and production, but have support from our diverse tutors for musicians of all kinds. From sound engineers to beatboxers, jazz players to DJs, garage bands to classical singers, the Lab is a totally inclusive space where we’ll help you achieve what you want to do with your music.
The Lab is stocked with loads of kit to help you, so whether you’re using your own software or just exploring options we can support you. We also have access to a drum kit, piano and guitar – if there’s something specific which you’re after though, let us know!
Our younger group is an informal space to play, experiment and try out new skills and techniques. Young Lab members will enjoy working with tutors in a relaxed and fun environment.
You’ll work on music basics including skills like music tech and song writing. You’ll also get an intro to instruments through jamming on guitar, ukulele, singing, drums and more!
Think you’re ready for the next step in your DML progress? Check our DML Seniors group for 11-19 year olds, running after this group on Saturdays.
We have a team of amazing tutors supporting sessions for you. With a huge range of skills and experience, including DJing and music tech, guitar, performance, song writing and more, they’re on hand to share their skills with you. Check out their full bios below.
Here at DML, we’ll encourage you to become fully rounded musicians and artists with experience in a range of topics and skills. We also offer opportunities throughout the year to perform and produce your own music. Even better, you’ll connect and network with like-minded Lab members from your community throughout!
All skill levels are welcome with us, so it doesn’t matter whether you’ve been recording for years or are just curious – as long as you’ve a passion for music, you’ll have a great time at the Lab.

The Lab meets at the ‘Bridge 4 Young People’ (Dartford Youth Hub), a purpose-built youth facility that provides a range of equipment and great spaces for young people to make music and explore their interests.
Youth workers support this weekly activity, working closely with the Kent Music staff and the young people attending to build a friendly and creative music programme for all.
When dropping off and picking children up, please use the KCC spaces in Bell Terrace.
Finding the front door of the Lab for the first time can sometimes be a little tricky – we’ve prepared the video below to show you quickly how to find it!
Don’t forget to bring your instrument/s if you play one.
There is a £2 charge per session. This is a pay-as-you-go cost, so there’s no big commitment upfront. You do still need to apply online first, though.
If you’re already a member of a Kent Music Music Centre, then you can attend the Lab for no extra cost!
The Dartford Music Lab is lucky to have amazingly talented and versatile tutors onsite every week to support your musical development. Find out all about them below!

Dee’s background in music comes from the fun of just jamming around on instruments in her bedroom with her friends, with none of them having any musical experience. They kept plugging away, and eventually sent some of their work to Future Music and Computer Music Magazines, where they had tracks featured in both. Dee even won demo of the month in Future Music, with the tracks being featured on their cover CD.
Dee then had my first official release a couple of years later as part of ‘drum n bass’ trio Retronym, where they were favourably reviewed by Drum and Bass magazine as promising newcomers.
It was then she turned her attention to what she really wanted to do, play guitar, and write songs in a band. She joined a pre-existing London act who eventually became The Pretty Route, where they played up and down the country on the LGBT+ scene, culminating in such events as Brighton Pride, Manchester Pride, and at Pride London on the main stage, performing in front of 20,000 people.
Dee has a BA Honours degree in Music Production and Technology
Dee has since worked on various youth projects, and she wants to make sure that young people from all different backgrounds and experience levels find a place to contribute to the creation of digital art and come together in a totally inclusive setting, leaving no young person left behind.
Skills/Expertise: music tech (has Logic, but as above with Seb), music production, guitar (electric & acoustic), band development, stage performance and support
Genres: Drill, grime, trap, hip hop, rock, indie
