Open to all instruments, young musicians will play together and learn essential ensemble skills, improving their musical knowledge, as well as experimenting with creating their own new music, improvising and singing.  Sessions will enable players to meet other young musicians from across Dartford and challenge the idea of the traditional orchestra, in a fun environment.

The orchestra is open to musicians in years 6-13, who are a grade 2-5 standard (or have been playing for 3 years). All instruments are welcome. If your instrument requires an amp, you will need to supply this. If you play the piano/keyboard or drums, please contact us before attending the group to check availability.

When: Wednesdays 5pm – 7pm, term-time only

Where: Mick Jagger Centre, Shepherds Lane, Dartford, DA1 2JZ

This group is provided by Kent Music in partnership with Mick Jagger Centre.

BBC Ten Pieces – Earth Mission

With the 50th anniversary of the moon landing, the 100th anniversary of the premiere of Holst’s The Planets and Earth Day in 2018/2019, it is a great time to explore the topic of space. Holst didn’t write a movement for Earth and so the BBC Earth Mission asked all budding Ten Pieces musicians to create a piece of music about the Earth as though they are looking down on it from space.

This piece is completely devised by members of Dartford Orchestra for Young People – each came up with a short movement that they felt captured the sounds and styles of a continent. https://www.bbc.com/teach/ten-pieces/earth-mission/zdc7382

All instruments are welcome, including non-traditional instruments. Although singing will be incorporated into the sessions, this is a group for instrumentalists.

The ensemble is for mixed abilities. As a minimum level, participants should have been learning their instrument for 3 years (or Grade 2 equivalent). The upper limit is Grade 5 or equivalent.
