The West Kent Youth Brass Band (WKYBB) is a brand-new ensemble for young brass players. Join today to kick off this exciting new group!

WKYBB is designed for young players at Grade 2 standard and up. The band will explore exciting repertoire from traditional to modern, making sure every session is the right mix of challenging and exciting. This ensemble will take place at the West Kent Music Centre Sevenoaks Campus (Trinity School)

The group is led by the brilliant Jo Harris, a professional brass player and experienced teacher. Find out more in her full bio below!

Jo and the whole Kent Music team will support participants throughout. With the Band, participants will develop their skills and become fully-rounded players as an ensemble.

The WKYBB is open to all brass players who meet the standard, and all brass instruments including cornet, trumpet, euphonium, French horn, baritone horn, tenor horn, trombone, and tuba.

Autumn Term:
September 13, 20, 27; October 4, 11, 18
November 1, 8, 15, 22, 29

Spring Term:
January 10, 17, 24, 31; February 7
February 21, 28; March 7, 14, 21, 28

Summer Term:
April 18, 25; May 2, 9, 16, 23
June 6, 13, 20, 27; July 4

You can join this group at any time; there are no auditions, and it is suitable for brass players at Grade 2 or equivalent and up aged 10 –18.

Once you’ve selected your chosen course, go to your basket to complete your application. You will then be prompted to log into your Kent Music online customer account. 

 If you don’t have an online customer account, then don’t worry – you can still easily apply at the ‘Apply Here’ button. You’ll be taken through some simple steps to create an account and your application will be processed the same as someone with an existing account. 

 After your application is complete, you’ll be sent further information about your ensemble to confirm.

WKYBB is part of the West Kent Music Centre, a vibrant hub for music in the community! Joining the Centre is easy, and fantastic value from only £4.50 a week.

Financial assistance is also available for students meeting our criteria, which could cover up to 75% of your membership cost. Check out the page for more info.

As a Centre member you will have access to all ensembles at our Music Centres across Kent, so you can join as many as you wish, no matter which centre you initially signed up at!

Meet your ensemble leader – Jo Harris

The West Kent Youth Brass Band is lucky to have the amazingly talented and versatile Jo Harris onsite every week to run the ensemble. 

Jo Harris performs repertoire bridging Bach to Bingham for chamber groups Bella Tromba and Britten Sinfonia, specialist ensembles Gabrieli and Orchestre Révolutionnaire et Romantique and for Welsh National Opera. 

Jo is a founding member of brass ensemble Bella Tromba. Recently presented with Making Music’s coveted Recommended Artist prize for their outstanding recitals, the ensemble also enjoy partnerships with the Royal Opera House’s educational department and perform fun Pop-Up shows for Classic FM. 

 Her studio experience includes CD recordings for Chandos and Hyperion, live broadcasts for BBC TV and Classic FM and soundtracks for Universal Studios.
