A pilot programme for primary schools in Kent & Medway
In 2026, Kent Music is opening parts of Kent Music Summer School (KMSS) to a primary school visits as part of a pilot programme.
These visits give pupils the chance to experience high-quality music education in a specialist setting, see large-scale music-making in action, and begin to understand where music learning can lead.
Kent Music Summer School is an intensive music education programme for young people aged 8–19, based at Benenden School. It complements school music provision by offering learning experiences that are not always possible in a classroom setting.
Who can take part?
Visits are open to primary schools across Kent & Medway and are suitable for a wide range of pupils, including those learning instruments (including MusicPlus/WCIT) or singing in school.
This is a pilot for primary schools only. The programme will be reviewed and developed in future years.
What will schools experience?
During the visit, pupils will:
- watch young musicians from 8 – 19 rehearsing in large ensembles
- see specialist music teaching in practice on courses
- a 45-minute singing session led by Kent Music Lead Teacher Daniel Moulton
- experience the environment of a large-scale music programme
- ask questions and explore where music learning can lead
How does this support schools?
