CREATE Music Labs… leading the way for young composers in Kent

CREATE is an exciting new Soundhub programme delivered by Kent Music for secondary school-age music creators, composers and writers in Kent.  Throughout Autumn 2013 young music creators will work with professional musicians, composers and creators, exploring interactive instrumentation techniques, inspiration, musical intuition and the technical aspects of creating new music in varied genres. These musical master classes will give creators the tools and skills to create new music independently.

The Music Labs are also a not-to-be-missed opportunity for music teachers or peripatetic music tutors to further their own knowledge of what can be a difficult and challenging part of the music curriculum to deliver.  The CREATE Music Labs can be used as part of your own Continual Professional Development. You will have opportunities to share experiences with other music teachers and pose questions to the professional musicians, composers and creators delivering the Labs.

Students will learn from leading musical professionals, have the opportunity to have  their music played as well as getting a chance to meet other young composers in a creative and fun environment.  Students can bring instruments, their latest ideas, a finished work or even just a rhythm or a melody.  Music Labs are designed to be suitable for students who have no experience in composition or to add a new dimension to those who already do have experience. Each individual can learn a lot from both the musicians and the composers depending on their level, experience and confidence.

At the heart of the Music Labs is a desire to encourage young music creators to be explorers: students are free to take risks and push boundaries as their own compositions take shape.
