A truly inspiring Breaking the Bubble SEN/D Development day

On Wednesday 19th October, Kent, Surrey and Sussex joined forces to host Breaking the Bubble, a conference to develop new ways to help children and young people with special educational needs and disabilities.

The day was held at Rich Mix, London and was guided by music educator, consultant and facilitator, Laura Saunders. With delegates coming from over the UK to attend, the day began with a panel discussion from Mary Crawley from UP! Orchestra and conductor and composer, James Rose. Everyone was then invited to attend workshop sessions of their choice run by Rhythmix, Drake Music, Sounds of Intent, Red Zebra and Jo May and Linda Game, who lead a spoons workshop.

Adam Ockelford, Professor of Music at Roehampton University, said music brought consistency to a complicated world and was perfect for interacting with people, articulating irony, humour or empathy when communication through words failed.

Throughout the day, students from Ifield School (Kent), Meadowfield School (Kent) and Park School (Surrey) were taking part in the Creative Classroom with James Redwood and his excellent team of young musicians to produce the musical climax of the day, a performance entitled ‘Our Big Adventure’

Overall a motivating and enjoyable day! Here are some tweets from the day:
