Vulcan bomber helps music and dance reach the heights in Margate!

On Saturday 15 August members of Kent County Youth Orchestra performed in Margate at the Turner Contemporary Gallery. The performance was part of the gallery’s events for International Youth Day. It also provided a fitting platform for a return to the gallery after the very successful performance for the royal visit in March. The group performed a heady mix of music from Mozart to Shostakovich.  They were also joined in two mesmerising tangos from the Tango King, Astor Piazzolla by two local soloists from Thanet based Elite Dance Academy.

If the dramatic back drop of the shimmering blue sea through the expanse of the gallery’s full length windows wasn’t enough, the performance was further enhanced by the breath taking fly past of an RAF Vulcan bomber. The aircraft in question being the only such flying example in the world today – credit due to nearby Herne Bay air show! This was a collaborative tour de force leaving smiles on all of the faces of the proud performers and a very attentive and beaming audience!

Kent County Youth Orchestra return to Margate on 29th August for their Summer concert at Margate’s Winter Gardens. With an exciting programme of film music, the orchestra will be playing some of the greatest music written for the cinema and are joined by guest conductor Caroline Hobbs-Smith and soloist John Harle, one of the worlds finest classical and jazz musicians. Tickets are still available for the event!
