This supportive and practical session focuses on the core responsibilities of a secondary music specialist and how to build a sustainable, impactful music curriculum. The session would be most suited to Secondary Music ECTs, new department leads, and department leads without a formal background in music.
Key Topics will include:
- KS2–KS3 Transition: Managing varied levels of prior learning.
- Curriculum Planning: Balancing topics vs. skills; effective progression mapping.
- Music Development Plans: Creating a strategic plan for your department.
- External Partnerships: Working with Music Hubs, peripatetic staff, trips, and visitors. Wellbeing & Boundaries: Maintaining personal and professional sustainability.
This is a whole day session and lunch will be provided. If you have any dietary requirements, please specify this when booking your place.
The day will be facilitated by Zoe Marksford, Kent Music School Support and Development Manager.
Kent Music are proud to bring these events to music educators working in Kent & Medway schools for free! There is a small fee of £15 for independent schools and out of area schools. If you book a place on one of our courses, but find you can no longer attend, please endeavour to attend or let us know at your earliest convenience. Failure to give at least 48-hours’ notice (not including weekends/holidays) for a cancellation may result in a non-attendance charge of £35 to your school to cover refreshments, lunch and materials.
