Kent Youth Jazz Orchestra

Who is the group for?

KYJO is open to musicians aged 11–18 playing at around Grade 4 level and above on brass, woodwind, guitar, percussion or keyboard instruments. Some experience of jazz can be helpful, but it’s not essential.

The orchestra is ideal for young musicians who are ready to challenge themselves in a high-level ensemble, develop improvisation and performance skills, and experience the thrill of live gigs and big band music. It’s also a natural progression route for members of groups such as Maidstone Junior Jazz Band and other developing jazz ensembles.

Are instruments provided?

No. Members should bring their own instrument to rehearsals and performances. If you haven’t got an instrument, then check out our easy and affordable Instrument Hire service.

How much does it cost to join?

We aim to make Music Centre membership as affordable and accessible as possible for everyone who wants to join the music community.

Once you’re a member you will have access to all groups at our Music Centres. You can join as many as you wish, no matter which centre you initially signed up at and make even more music!
