Prelude Strings is a friendly and supportive string ensemble for young people, adults and families at Thanet Music Centre who are playing at approximately Grade 3 standard or above. At each session, you’ll explore a varied and exciting range of music written and arranged for violin, viola, cello and double bass.
Led by experienced tutors, you’ll develop your ensemble skills, build confidence as a musician and improve your technique while making music with other string players from across the local area.
Whether you’ve recently reached Grade 3 and are looking for your first ensemble experience, or you’re a more advanced player keen to challenge yourself and enjoy playing with others, Prelude Strings offers a rewarding and enjoyable musical environment for all.

Who is the group for?
Prelude Strings is an ensemble for young people, adults and families. The group is suitable for string players performing at approximately Grade 3 standard and above. We welcome violinists, violists, cellists and double bass players of all ages.
Are instruments provided?
Students will need to bring their own instruments with the exception of drums and piano/keyboard which can be provided on request.
How much does it cost to join?
We aim to make Music Centre membership as affordable and accessible as possible for everyone who wants to join the music community.
Once you’re a member you will have access to all groups at our Music Centres. You can join as many as you wish, no matter which centre you initially signed up at and make even more music!
Lessons are an additional charge. However, if you have lessons with us you will receive a 10% discount on your Music Centre membership.

How do I join?
It’s simple! Just click the ‘join this group’ button on this page. Complete the form and add the course to your basket. Then go to your basket to finish your application by logging into your Kent Music online customer account.
If you don’t have an account, no worries – you can still apply by clicking the ‘Apply Here’ button. You’ll be guided through a few easy steps to create an account and complete your application.
Once your application is done, you’ll receive further information about your lessons or ensemble.

What if I don’t have my own instrument?
We offer an instrument hire service at affordable rates. You’ll get a discount on your instrument hire if you have lessons with us! This allows students to access high-quality instruments without the need for a significant upfront investment.
