Welcome to Ashford Music Centre!

The Ashford Music Centre (AMC) is an inspiring local music hub offering a range of lessons and ensembles for musicians of all ages, backgrounds and interests.

It’s a great place to connect with the local music community and access fantastic music education outside of school.

We offer plenty of opportunities to perform, experiment and play. The Centre has a wide range of lessons available for students from beginners to experts. All lessons and ensembles are led by our talented and supportive music tutors.

It’s also a great opportunity to connect with the local music community, meeting like-minded players and music lovers in a friendly and supportive environment!

Learning to play an instrument or sing is incredibly rewarding, giving a sense of achievement, and is a skill you will have for life.

All our Kent Music teachers are passionate, talented and supportive professionals, and look forward to welcoming students of all experience levels and backgrounds.

Joining a local music ensemble like an orchestra, choir or band can enhance your playing, giving you the opportunity to meet like-minded young musicians, learn new skills, gain performance experience and become a more confident player.

Ensembles running at the Ashford Music Centre include Ashford Music Explorers, Ashford Creative Orchestra and the Ashford Junior Choir. We have a team of inspiring and dynamic tutors who ensure that the rehearsals are fun and creative.

When you turn into the Highworth Grammar School grounds at the Maidstone Road entrance, the car park is in front of you. Gower House, where all Music lessons and ensembles take place, is to the right and is accessed through the main reception. Our receptionist will greet you in the main reception area and you will be asked to sign in/out.

BY CAR: Gower House can be accessed by car via the entrance in Maidstone Road.

BY BUS: There are bus stops near to Gower House which are linked to a number of routes.

BY TRAIN: Gower House is a 25 minute walk from the Ashford International station.


You can park easily in the main car park at Highworth Grammar School.

Music Centre membership is fantastic value from only £4.50 a week, with some great benefits!

As a member you will have access to all ensembles at our Music Centres across Kent, so you can join as many as you wish, no matter which centre you initially signed up at.

Tuition is an additional charge, but you will receive a 10% discount on your membership if you also wish to join an ensemble at a Music Centre.

Fees per term for 2021-22

Child £22.50 | Adult £30

Fees are invoiced 6 times a year (in line with 6 school terms) and can be paid by instalments on request immediately following receipt of your invoice. Invoices will be sent at the beginning of each term and are payable by return.

How to apply

To apply for tuition or ensembles at this Music Centre, please click ‘Apply Here’ below.

You’ll be taken to our online course platform where you can select your Music Centre of choice as the venue. You can then browse the available lessons and ensembles.

You can also see and apply for other services such as instrument hire and financial assistance at the same link.

Once you’ve selected your chosen courses, go to your basket to complete your application. You will then be prompted to log into your Kent Music online customer account.

If you don’t have an online customer account, then don’t worry – you can still easily apply at the ‘Apply Here’ button. You’ll be taken through some simple steps to create an account and your application will be processed the same as someone with an existing account.

After your application is complete, you’ll be sent further information about your lessons or ensemble to confirm.

Whilst restrictions have been eased, we are still prioritising everyone’s health and safety and would therefore ask that all centre staff and students undertake some basic measures to reduce the risk from COVID-19.

These measures are also part of our agreement to work at our venue, so it’s important that everyone follows the measures below while at the centre so we can continue to work at this wonderful venue!

Please read very carefully.

Before visiting the centre:
  • Wherever possible, we are asking all our staff and participants to take a lateral flow test no more than 24 hours before attending the Centre. If your test result is positive, please do not attend your lesson/ensemble and inform Centre Manager Lucy Duff on as soon as possible.
Whilst at the centre:
  • Please register with our receptionist on arrival.
  • Parents/carers who are able to wait safely and comfortably in their own vehicle can accompany their child to the reception entrance but are advised to not enter the building further unless they wish to speak directly to a member of the Kent Music team. Exceptions to this include relevant support workers for students with additional needs and parents/ carers of students under 8 years old.
  • Unaccompanied students and parents/carers who do not have a vehicle to wait in safely and comfortably are permitted to use the waiting areas.
  • When inside the building, staff, students and parents/carers are advised to keep a minimum of 1m distance from people in other households. If a 1m distance cannot be kept in the waiting area, another large, ventilated room will be made available for parents/carers and accompanied students to wait in (G146). Unaccompanied students must wait in the main reception area.
  • Staff, parents/carers and secondary aged students are advised to please wear a face covering when inside communal areas of the centre, including the reception area and when moving to the designated lesson or ensemble room.
  • We will still be encouraging social distancing in rehearsals. Non-blown instrument players are advised to keep a minimum distance of 1m apart and blown instrument players and singers 2m apart.
  • The Kent Music team will be regularly cleaning throughout the Centre. All staff, students and parents/carers are advised to use hand sanitiser at the reception desk upon arrival and departure. Hand sanitiser and wipes will also be made available in the teaching rooms.
  • Please maintain good hand hygiene. Hand washing facilities are available in the toilets near the reception area.
  • Students will be responsible for their own instruments and equipment.
  • Windows will be left open to ensure plenty of ventilation. Please make sure you bring appropriate clothing with you if the weather is chilly. Lessons will only take place in rooms which allow for good ventilation.
  • Before leaving the centre, please sign out with our receptionist.
After visiting the Centre:
  • If you feel unwell or have a positive test result within 48 hours of attending the Centre, please inform Centre Manager Lucy Duff on immediately.
  • All staff and student contact details will be recorded so that we can instigate the track and trace process. Please note, any positive test result will only be shared anonymously.
Please do not attend the Centre if:
  • You or a member of your household has tested positive for COVID-19 within the last 14 days.
  • You are feeling unwell, even if your symptoms don’t appear to be ‘typical’ COVID-19 symptoms and/or you have taken a lateral flow test with a negative result. We want to avoid other bugs too!
  • You have received a notification from the NHS telling you that you must isolate on the date of your lesson/ensemble.
