Start your singing journey at Gravesham Junior Choir (GJC)!

The GJC is a space for young singers of all backgrounds and levels of experience to sing together.

Experience singing a wide range of repertoire in a variety of genres and styles with skilled and supportive tutor Karen Hill. At GJC, enthusiastic young singers will have the opportunity to shape themselves into skilled vocalists, while keeping the fun and creativity at the heart of group singing.

Each session will include warmups, games, technique practice, and of course plenty of singing!

Choir members work on a variety of music skills including harmony signing, notation and more through fun games and activities. Meet other young singers, build self-confidence and skills, and enjoy a fun environment at regular weekly sessions.

You can join this group at any time – no auditions are required! The GJC is designed for all young singers aged 8 – 14 who want to take their singing to the next level.

Once you’ve selected your chosen course, go to your basket to complete your application. You will then be prompted to log into your Kent Music online customer account.

If you don’t have an online customer account, then don’t worry – you can still easily apply at the ‘Apply Here’ button. You’ll be taken through some simple steps to create an account and your application will be processed the same as someone with an existing account.

After your application is complete, you’ll be sent further information about your ensemble to confirm.

Joining the Centre is easy, and fantastic value from only £4.50 a week.

Fees per term for 2022 – 23:
Under 18s £45 (referring to a 3 term academic year)

As a Centre member you will have access to all ensembles at our Music Centres across Kent, so you can join as many as you wish, no matter which centre you initially signed up at!

Financial assistance is also available for students meeting our criteria, which could cover up to 75% of your membership cost. Check out the page for more info.

Meet your ensemble leader – Karen Hill

Karen studied music at The Guildhall school of Music and Drama, training as a classical singer. She has taken part numerous professional stage performances that cover a wide range of musical styles and roles. Most notably she was in the cast of Phantom of the Opera (Cameron Mackintosh).

These days Karen sings swing music with several Big bands, function bands and small jazz groups all over the UK. Karen also finds much joy in sharing her love of singing and music by coaching and conducting many choirs, The Ashford Community Choir and The Boughton Monchelsa Community Choir and The Kent County Youth Choirs . In 2019 she conducted the Kent area Children in need choir for BBC Television.

Karen also teaches music at a Kent Primary school where she also leads the 50 strong choir.
