Creative Opportunities in East Kent

The Philharmonia Orchestra will be working on a range of education projects this Spring which will include “SOLAR SOUNDS” – a creative ensemble project for young people.

In April and May this year, as part of the Philharmonia’s Canterbury residency at the Marlowe Theatre, the orchestra will be bringing an interactive, digital installation to Canterbury called Universe of Sound, which we featured in the January edition of Pulse.

To celebrate this, the Philharmonia are inviting schools from across Kent to visit the Universe of Sound installation and also offering a brilliant opportunity for young people to play in a creative ensemble called SOLAR SOUNDS, alongside members of the Philharmonia Orchestra.

SOLAR SOUNDS is an ensemble designed to give secondary school students the experience of playing in an orchestra like no other! Young musicians from all backgrounds are invited to participate, from classical flautists to jazz saxophonists, from laptop sound designers to MCs. New music and improvisation is at the heart of the musical experience for young people in this “orchestra”, taking inspiration directly from the Universe of Sound installation hosted at Canterbury Christchurch University.
