The Kent Youth Singers (KYS) were formed in response to the great demand for places in the Kent Youth Choir. Membership of this lively and talented choir, aged 14–21 years is highly sought after and members are selected by audition from across the county. With experience gained in this group, many members go on to audition successfully for membership of the Kent Youth Choir.
Our next course takes place 5-8 April 2017 at Sutton Valence School, followed by a concert on 8 April at Colyer-Fergusson Hall, Canterbury at 3pm
For 14-21 year olds, the Kent Youth Singers and Kent Youth Choir meet for three-day residential courses in each major holiday and perform at termly concerts across the county. Entry to the choirs is by audition. Audition slots are available on the dates above, between 11am and 3pm – please contact Valerie Cordina at email@example.com to arrange a time and talk through requirements. Please note that bursaries are available to those who meet requirements, in order to cover residential course costs.
The Kent Youth Singers study and perform music from a wide variety of periods and genres with a focus on increasing young singers’ understanding of choral repertoire and allowing them to experience different cultures and languages through music and singing. Composers can range from Thomas Tallis to Bill Withers with many in between!
Singers in KYS will have a good sense of pitch and rhythm, experience of singing in harmony, and some degree of sight-singing ability. Membership is by audition.
The Kent Youth Singers are led by conductor Ciara Considine, an excellent musician with vast experience in choral singing and working with young people. The Youth Singers also work with vocal specialists and guest conductors of international repute which have included Mark De-Lisser from the ACM Gospel Choir.

Three residential courses are held throughout the year at Christmas, Easter and Summer holiday periods. These courses provide an invaluable setting for focussed vocal rehearsal and study but also provide a creative social environment where singers can meet like-minded people and take part in peer directed musical activities.
