Brass workshop with professional trombonist Phil White

Medway Towns Music Centre based at Fort Pitt School hosted a brass workshop on Saturday 10th March led by professional trombonist Phil White. Phil, trombonist with the internationally acclaimed Philharmonia Orchestra was born and raised in Kent and a member of the Kent County Youth Orchestra for many years.

The two sessions that were provided for free by Kent Music and Friends of Medway Towns Music Centre attracted 30 brass players which enabled a vast array of styles to be looked at during the sessions. Music studied included material that the Senior Brass Ensemble at the centre are currently working on for their next concert on the 24th March. In addition to Phil White there was also some brass players from the local Royal Engineers Band present to support the morning  A very productive morning with a huge amount of praise and positive comments being received at the end of the sessions. It was particularly pleasing to see 5 tubas and four french horns present! Well done to all those involved.

There are three brass ensembles available on a Saturday morning at the centre during term time with something for all ages and standards.

There will be another workshop planned in the future at the centre but focusing on strings on that occasion  – details will be released as soon as they have been finalised.
