A fantastic start to Folkestone Music Lab!

Kent Music, in collaboration with the Folkestone Academy and Creative Foundation has recently launched what it hopes will be a new model for providing out-of-school music opportunities at the Folkestone Glassworks.

Our work at the Glassworks is based on the overriding principle of helping young people make the music they want to make and we have a team of multi-skilled industry professionals to help those who attend do this.

The young people who have visited us so far have been learning to sing, rap and play drums, write songs, record, rehearse, play in bands or simply try out different instruments. We also hope they are making new musical friends – we have visitors from all of Folkestone’s secondary schools and an area to just hang out in. These activities are not ‘it’ though – we very much welcome new visitors with other ideas as we are putting creativity at the centre of what happens.

The sessions take place on Saturday mornings during term time and are open to all young people between the ages of 12 and 19. They are also free at the moment and equipment and instruments are provided.
