Thanet Children in Fairy-Tale Show at Winter Gardens

More than 400 schoolchildren will show off their performance skills in music, song and dance at The Thanet Schools Prom, presented by Kent Music and Thanet Rotary Clubs at the Winter Gardens, Margate, on Thursday March 27.

This year’s theme is “Once Upon a Tune”, with bands, choirs, singers and dancers giving performances loosely-based around traditional fairy-tales and Disney stories. The climax of the show will be an ensemble grand finale of the hit song I’m A Believer, which starts with the line “I thought love was only true in fairy tales” and was featured in the film Shrek.

The young musicians, aged between seven and 18, are from Priory Infant School, Ellington Infant School, St Saviour’s CE Junior School, Chilton Primary School, St Joseph’s Catholic Primary School, The Foreland School, Dame Janet Primary Academy, Westgate College for Deaf People, Holy Trinity and St John’s Primary School, Ellington and Hereson School, St Nicholas-at-Wade Primary, Kent County Junior Singers, Upton Junior School, Chatham & Clarendon Grammar School Federation and St Lawrence College.

Local Rotary clubs from the Thanet area and Kent Music have collectively organised Prom Nights for local schools every year since 2004. The concert, which starts at 6.30pm, is open to the public as well as parents and families of the performers and admission is free.
