Kent Senior Choirs: Christmas 2014

The Kent Youth Choir and Kent Youth Singers had an extremely successful Christmas course from 20th – 23rd December, culminating in a concert at a centre of excellence for the arts in Ashford, Revelation St. Mary’s.

During the course the choirs were also visited by Mary King, an international singing performer, coach, broadcaster and writer.(www.marykingvoice.co.uk) She worked with the Kent Youth Choir on repertoire for their concert and then held a master class, where members of the choir were able to perform solo pieces to Mary and receive help and advice about their performances.

Mary also worked with both senior choirs in a workshop evening session where singers were given information about vocal health/care and tips/techniques for getting the most out of their voices.

The concert on December 23rd was an excellent end to the successful course and demonstrated the amount of work the choirs were able to do in four days. Both choirs performed separately and then came together for two joint performances – one piece, Hymn to the Eternal Flame (Stephen Paulus), featured the KYS girls as a semi-chorus performing from the gallery of the church.

A quintet from KYC also performed ‘Run to You’ by Pentatonix, a commendable performance which demonstrated their high level of ability in chamber singing.

With such a successful start to the choirs’ year we are now looking forward to the next course at Easter in Sutton Valence School from 8th – 11th April 2015!

What the members enjoyed most about the Winter course…

The high quality teaching from conductors, vocal coaches and outside guests.

The friendliness of everyone and the standard of the choir throughout everyday.

Everything, the music we sang, the community feeling of the choir, having Ciara as a conductor, seeing my friends and just generally singing.

Being able to meet new people and to sing pieces I would never have before from lots of different genres.
