This session is aimed at class teachers who want to gain some additional ideas and skills in music teaching and TAs, HLTAs and Cover Supervisors who get left music to teach at the last minute.

Many of us are familiar with the situation. It’s five minutes until the end of the lunch break. Mrs Smith in year 5 has been called to an urgent meeting with the Head Teacher and you have been asked to cover her class for an hour. What work has she left you to do? “Oh, just do a bit of music with them”, she says and disappears down the corridor amid a flurry of paperwork.

Katie Teage will lead you through songs, rhythm, pitch and notation games, listening activities and much more. You will learn how to adapt activities to a range of year groups, so this is suitable for KS1 and 2 . Be ready to get involved and most of all, have a great, musical afternoon.

This session will be run by Katie Teage; an Educator, Consultant, Choir conductor, Composer, Arranger, Soprano with the London Vocal Project and Mother of two young boys. Katie studied a BA in Music at Middlesex university (2005), a Mmus in Composition at the Guildhall School of Music and Drama (2008) and a MA in Music Education at the Institute of Education (University College London) (2014). Katie is also a qualified teacher (QTS 2010) and worked as a peripatetic instrumental teacher in primary schools from 2005. Katie’s 18 years experience in primary education and work as an Assistant Headteacher puts her in high demand as an educator. Katie has worked as a Choral and Musicianship leader for The Voices Foundation and a trainer for Musical Futures. Katie is a musicianship teacher and workshop leader at the Royal College of Music, works for schools in London as Primary Music Specialist and advises Music Education Hubs around the country.

Kent Music are proud to bring these events to music educators across the county for free! If you book a place please endeavour to attend or let us know if you can no longer make it as this may be preventing another person booking a space. There will be a charge of £15 to schools for non-attendance without 48hours notice.
